January might not be the ideal time for a trip to Point Reyes, but it is one of our favorite places on earth and we have enjoyed visiting as much as possible over the last few years.

Hehe holding my belly and smiling – gotta fake it til you make it, right?
But actually though…

We usually camp at Point Reyes, but this time I knew I needed a real bed.
And below is our compromise – an adorable yurt on a farm with chickens running around and a fence with a little hole for a farm stand!

On one of our days at Point Reyes, some of our dearest friends came and met us for a stroll and a fire on the beach to celebrate Matt’s birthday.
It felt so good to be out walking with the sun on my face talking to loved ones!

The sunset was one of the most magnificent I have EVER seen.
These photos are barely edited. The colors really were this pink and purple.

Another day, another stroll — rebuilding my strength by wandering — can’t imagine a better spot.

Oh!
We saw a bunch of elephant seals! And harbor seals! And dolphins! And maybe a whale in the distance – I can’t remember now.
And in terms of feelings… like feelings coming back to me after going numb during the first half of the pregnancy…
Well, seeing friends made me feel a whole lot of happiness and love.
And, while watching the elephant seals and harbor seals, I thought about how someday I’ll be able to show Baby pictures of the seals, and then someday I’ll bring them here and introduce them to the seals and the whales and the dolphins in person.
My heart leapt at the thought, and then it leapt again when we saw a salmon battling it’s way upstream, and then again when we saw elk on the side of the road in the fog — and those little reminders — that I still had a heart that could leap like that — felt really good.
